Privacy Policy

Effective September 7, 2026

TagTheSound identifies the song in a TikTok or Reel you share to it. There's no account, no sign-in, and this page describes, plainly, everything that happens to your data along the way.

What we process, and why

  • The link you share or paste. A TikTok or Instagram link is resolved to the clip it points to, either on your device or by our server for links that require it, so a few seconds of audio can be read from it. We don't create an account tied to this link, and we don't associate it with your identity.
  • A short clip of audio. Used immediately to generate an audio fingerprint, then discarded. We do not keep a copy of the video or audio after a lookup completes.
  • An audio fingerprint. Sent to Apple's ShazamKit service to identify the track. Per Apple, the underlying audio is not shared with Apple as part of this and the fingerprint itself can't be turned back into audio. See Apple's privacy policy for how Apple handles this.
  • The matched song's title and artist. Sent to Deezer, Spotify, and Tidal's public search APIs to check whether the track is available there and link to it directly. No data that identifies you is included in these requests.
  • Anonymous usage analytics. In the app, we use TelemetryDeck to see aggregate numbers, like how many lookups happen, in a form that isn't tied to your identity or device. On this website, we use Vercel Analytics to see aggregate page views and which buttons or links get used, also without tying it to your identity or device.
  • A single banner ad. Shown under a finished lookup via Google AdMob, requested as non-personalized, so it's served without an advertising identifier and without an App Tracking Transparency prompt.
  • A support message, if you send one. Your message, and an email address if you choose to give one, is emailed to us so we can reply. It isn't stored in a database.

What stays on your device

Your lookup history (the song, artist, artwork, platform links, and the original link you shared) is stored locally on your device only. We have no server-side copy of it, no way to see it, and nothing to delete on our end beyond what's already transient. You can delete any single entry by swiping it away, or clear everything from within the app at any time. Deleting the app deletes this data.

What we don't do

  • No account or sign-in of any kind.
  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA) collected or used.
  • No selling of data: there isn't any to sell.

Third parties involved

Apple (ShazamKit matching), Deezer, Spotify, and Tidal (availability search and direct links), Google AdMob and RevenueCat (the banner ad and the optional one-time Remove Ads purchase), TelemetryDeck (anonymous in-app analytics), Resend (relays support messages by email), and Vercel (hosts this website and the server that resolves some links, and provides anonymous website analytics). Each is governed by its own privacy policy for the data it receives as described above.

Children's privacy

TagTheSound is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the effective date above and describe what changed.
